Cancer Care Ontario recently released a study comparing the effectiveness of different types of mammography technology used to detect breast cancer.
 
The study found that mammography equipment that uses digital direct radiography (DR) and film-based technology are more effective at detecting breast cancer than computer radiography (CR).
 
Grey Bruce Health Services has two mammography units, and both use DR technology. Prior to the installation of these two units, we used film-based technology. GBHS has never used CR technology.
 
We would like to assure  all of our patients that their mammography tests are done on the best available technology. Our patients do not need to have their tests re-done.
 
GBHS Owen Sound conducted 9,496 mammography tests last year.
