Board of DirectorsGrey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) is governed by a Board of Directors, which is a mix of elected, appointed and ex-officio members. There are 12 elected members of the Board.
6 members are elected from the geographic communities where GBHS offers care:
- 1 member from each of the Bruce Peninsula, Markdale, Meaford, and Southampton catchment areas
- 2 members from Owen Sound catchment area
- 6 members are elected as members at large from the GBHS catchment area
1 member is appointed from each of the following groups:
- GBHS’s Foundations representing 5 foundations
- Hospital Auxiliaries representing 7 auxiliaries
Ex-offico members include:
- Co-Presidents of the Medical Staff, Chief of Staff, President and CEO
1 member is appointed from the following Community Boards:
- Hanover and District Hospital
- South Bruce Grey Health Centre
- Grey Bruce Community Care Access Centre How to Become an Elected Board MemberIn April of each year vacancies are advertised in local newspapers and on this area of our website.We are currently not accepting applications for Board Membership. Board Members are:- Elected for an initial three year term. Members may be re-elected for 2 further three year terms to a maximum of 9 years of service.
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must reside in the geographical area for which a vacancy occurs.
- Must not be a member of GBHS staff, spouse of staff or professional staff
- Must be willing to commit an average of 15 hours a month to the responsibilities of the Board
- Be willing and able to travel to each of the GBHS hospitals as the Board rotates the location of the meeting on a monthly basis Process for Election:- Applicants are screened by a Committee of the Board according to the criteria set by hospital by-laws.
- Areas of Specific expertise are examined and matched against current needs
- Applicants are interviewed by the Committee
- Applicants are then recommended for election
- Elections take place at the annual meeting held June each year.
