Administrative Assistant - Laboratory

Full-Time, Temporary (Approx. 12 months)
Owen Sound

Reporting to the Director, Laboratory, the Administrative Assistant will work with the Lab management team for a broad range of responsibilities, projects and committees, in organizing and managing their activities to meet their responsibilities and goals. The Administrative Assistant will provide confidential managerial and administrative assistance to the leaders, working collaboratively with them to develop and execute plans and projects; organize documents and user materials, support the collection, analysis and reporting of statistical data and other duties as needed.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Post-secondary education in a business or related health discipline
  • 3-5 years administrative/secretarial experience preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Experience in  a laboratory environment including knowledge of Ontario Laboratory Accreditation preferre
  • Proficiency in medical terminology
  • Excellent computer skills including ability in Excel, Access, Word, Power Point and Internet based applications
  • Proficiency in Cerner PathNet and Paradigm (or willingness to learn)
  • Proven ability to respond to a wide variety of issues and deal with unclear situations and conflicting demand
  • Excellent judgment in setting priorities, identifying issues and determining action required; adept at balancing major concurrent tasks and project
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication and relationship management skill
  • Good problem solving, critical thinking skill
  • Respect for confidentiality/sensitivity of information
  • Ability/willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate early morning or evening meeting
  • Ability/willingness to work extended hours in order to meet project deadlin
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
