Social Worker BSW - Withdrawal Management Services

Full-Time, less than 37.5 hrs/week
Owen Sound

Reporting to the Manager of Addiction Services, the Social Worker – BSW provides a range of direct programming services that link and support clients who have more serious and complex mental health and/or addiction illness, in the development and implementation of their integrated care plan.  This position will also enhance inter team skill development and knowledge of services and supports with the intention of building capacity in and between the WMS/Inpatient and Outpatient teams. The incumbent will be working closely with the teams who provide treatment, rehabilitative and support services to clients in order to achieve their goals.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work

  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service workers

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in a multidisciplinary team

  • Experience in Addiction Services, Crisis Intervention/emergency psychiatry and working with community agencies

  • Familiarity with principles and practice of intensive case management, rehabilitation and the recovery model for persons with serious mental and addiction illness

  • Psycho/Social, mental status and addiction assessment skills

  • Ability to provide a wide range of counselling, support, advocacy and education services to family members and others of significance in the patient’s life

  • Ability to communicate positively and professionally with family members, community providers and physicians

  • Preferred experience working with DATIS and Motivational Interviewing

  • Some traveling required - Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and personal vehicle, may have to transport clients on occasion

  • Ability to work closely as a member of a team and share responsibilities

  • Available for all shifts

  • Knowledge of substance abuse, withdrawal and treatment strategies 

  • Excellent organizational skills and scheduling abilities

  • Ability to co-ordinate multiple departmental interests to provide quality patient care

  • Ability to problem solve and make effective decisions during highly stressful and potentially violent emergency situations

  • Willingness to learn new concepts and integrate them into practice

  • Recent satisfactory attendance and performance records

  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)

  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes

Preferred:

  • CPR & CPI Certification

  • GAIN Q3 and/or ADAT certification an asset
