Compensation and Benefits Specialist

Full-Time
Owen Sound

This integrated position will support both GBHS and SBGHC with the development and maintenance of compensation and benefit plans.  As part of the Human Resources Teams, the Compensation and Benefit Analyst is an organized and detail oriented individual with advanced skills in spreadsheet and data base management.  Key responsibilities include writing job descriptions that capture and standardize qualifications across job classifications; facilitating and documenting the job evaluation process; conducting and/or maintaining pay equity for all union and non-union employee groups; recommending and maintaining compensation plans in keeping with the organizations compensation philosophy and collective agreements; overseeing benefit plan agreements, renewals and documentation; completing benchmarking surveys and analyzing results; preparing work force planning documentation, preparing cost modelling compensation and benefit proposals; participating in regional resource groups for best practice.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Human Resources
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or working towards completion
  • Previous experience in compensation and benefits administration and analysis
  • Advanced skills in spreadsheet and data base management
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, ECFAA, BPSECA, Pay Equity
  • Previous experience facilitating job evaluation, and working with GNS point factor evaluation tools
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of pay equity plans
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally
  • Excellent communication and customer service  skills
  • Previous experience in delivering presentations to various audiences including senior leaders
  • Respect for confidentiality and adherence to privacy legislation

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team
  • Self-directed, flexible and adaptable to changing workload and work environment
  • Computer skills, at the advanced level, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (to be tested)
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple demands and complete assignments in an accurate and timely manner and to prioritize workload in accordance with department needs and timelines
  • Ability to develop reports, presentations, and draft correspondence

  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance

  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)

  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
