GBHS - Lion's Head Hospital

In Lion’s Head, there are four beds for inpatient care. This hospital also has very high seasonal volume in its emergency department and is a health care lifeline for residents and visitors to the Bruce Peninsula.

An adjacent physician office building opened in 2001 so that the four family physicians who staff the hospital can see their patients for office visits and be readily available in the case of emergencies in the hospital. Twenty-five GBHS staff work at this hospital.

A major physical plant upgrade began in the fall of 2003 and will include:

- A new digital imaging machine
- Upgraded electrical system with backup generators
- New heating, ventilation and air conditioning
- Bringing the hospital to current patient safety codes and standards
- A wheel chair accessible washroom
- A new secure medicine room
- A nurse-patient communication call system
- New flooring and carpeting
- A new sprinkler system

All of these changes are designed to improve service to patients in the north Peninsula and also to attract and retain physicians on the Peninsula.

Like all of the GBHS hospitals, Lion's Head offers 24/7 emergency care, acute care, pre-school speech therapy, diabetes education, laboratory, X-ray, and physiotherapy.
