GBHS - Markdale HospitalThe hospital’s current programs include its 14 bed inpatient services, a very busy Emergency Department, a day surgery service, and is well supported with excellent laboratory, diagnostic imaging, ultrasound and physiotherapy services. Just 30 minutes away is our Owen Sound hospital which provides regional specialty services, 24/7 lab and diagnostics including CT & MRI.
The planning and design stage for a new Centre Grey Hospital in Markdale is well underway. The community has successfully raised $13 million to meet its commitment to pay for the $50 million new hospital.
The new hospital will be a state-of-the-art facility located adjacent to Grey Gables, a modern long-term care home at the south entrance of Markdale on Hwy #10. The hospital will house a larger emergency room, 18 beds (with a planned increase to 24 by 2020), three close observation rooms, an operating room with a focus on day surgery and a procedure/endoscopy room.
The hospital serves the Villages of Markdale, Flesherton and Dundalk, and the surrounding Municipalities of Grey Highlands, Southgate, West Grey and Chatsworth; a population base of approximately 20,000.
GBHS’ Markdale hospital is the only health care facility between Owen Sound and Orangeville on the Highway 10 corridor. The hospital serves a vital role in response to motor vehicle accidents and also responds to the seasonal needs of the area’s active skiing community.

Visitor Information GBHS welcomes visitors and support persons to provide comfort and assistance to our patients in hospital and during their outpatient examinations and treatment.
Please note that the number of visitors is limited to two at one time for inpatients. One support person may accompany patients in emergency or patients having outpatient treatments or tests.
Children 12 years of age and under must be supervised at all times by an adult. Visiting Hours General visiting hours are 2-8 p.m. There are visiting policies for patients on compassionate grounds. Please check with the nursing station for details. Parking Parking rates at the Centre Grey Hospital were introduced in December of 2005.
We appreciate that the impact on some of our patients and visitors is significant. At the same time, these funds allow us to preserve patient programs and health care jobs in our commmunities. The new rate is very similar to rates in many community hospitals and far less than parking rates in teaching hospitals.
A visitor's lot is located across the street from the front of the hospital. The flat rate is $5.00. Tickets are available at the pay and display machine and must be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle. The system takes coins and bills and does provide change if needed.
Daily, weekly and monthly reduced rate passes are available at the Business Office, daily from 8:00am to 11:00pm. Parking is free in the visitor lot for the first 30 minutes to allow for short visits to the hospital.
Patients may use the pickup and drop off space at the front entrance of the hospital. There is also 2 handicapped parking space at the front of the hospital.
Thank you for supporting patient care programs at the Centre Grey Hospital through parking revenues. Food Services There is no regular food service for visitors to the hospital. A kiosk, operated by the Auxiliary, is open weekdays from 0800 - 1530 hours. They have baked goods and beverages and also sell baby outfits, cards, gift bags and some patient items. There are sandwiches, salads, cold beverages and snack food available in vending machines located in the service hallway on the main floor. Banking Currently there is not a bank machine on site however there are bank machines available in the downtown area. |
