President and CEO Report Highlights

The following are highlights from the President and CEO’s monthly report to the Grey Bruce Health Services Board of Directors. This month’s meeting was at the Owen Sound hospital.
Two New Members Join Board of Directors
Two positions have been vacant on the Board of Directors with the recent resignation of the Auxiliary representative and the Owen Sound catchment area representative
Interviews were held to fill these positions, and at today’s meeting the Board announced the approval of Brenda Kearney as the Auxiliary representative, and Lisa Milne as the Board’s representative from the Owen Sound catchment area
Brenda is currently a Director on the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation and is an Executive on the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary.
Brenda’s career has included senior leadership roles including Principal and Supervisory Official positions in Halton Region
Brenda has served as an Executive and Chair of both the Ontario Secondary School Principal’s Council and the Ontario Supervisory Officials Association
Lisa Milne is the President & CEO of Westario Power Inc. Lisa brings to the Board experience in corporate governance and oversight, risk assessment, and financial, legal and regulatory obligations
Lisa’s background includes experience as an investment advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns, and CFO with Westario prior to becoming President & CEO.
GBHS to Launch New Website
Board members were given a tour of the new GBHS website, which will go live on September 7
The website design is user-friendly with added colour and more white space to make it easy to navigate and easy to read
The content is patient-focused has been updated to answer questions that staff often hear from patients and visitors
New functionality has been added to encourage patient feedback, including a “Share Your Story” button, and a link to send staff and volunteers a thank you note
The new site also includes a link to the GBHS Twitter account and an RRS feed so that users can be notified when content is updated.
The provincial government announced a new funding formula for hospitals as part of their 2012 budget announcement
Under the new formula, a portion of hospital funding is based on health care needs of particular communities and the volume and complexity of the care each hospital provides
In addition, hospitals will receive a portion of funding based on fixed prices for specific procedures such as hip and knee replacement surgery
More fixed prices for specific procedures will be added over the next two years
The majority of Ontario hospitals are expected to receive a range of -1 to +1% increases with the application of the new funding formula
GBHS has received a planning target from the South West Local Health Integration Network which is in the positive range but this number has not yet been confirmed
It remains difficult to assess the financial impact on GBHS until that number is confirmed
GBHS continues to work with the SW LHIN to develop an accountability agreement for 2012-13.
New Chief Nursing Executive Starts
GBHS’ new VP of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive Julia Scott joined the senior team on August 20th Julia came to GBHS from Markham Stouffville where she held a similar position
Julia has a lengthy career as an administrator and a consultant. She is an experienced clinical leader with a strong focus on the work of nurses at the front line of care.
