Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Outpatient Mental Health Services the MSW/MHC-M, as part of the Sexual Assault & Partner Abuse Care (SAPACC) team, provides a range of services (counselling, assessments, and group work) to individuals who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence. MSW/MHC-M will provide high quality risk assessments and counselling services using a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and EMDR.  MSW/MHC-M will have a thorough understanding of recovery principles.    This position is initially targeted to work in our (SAPACC) program with the understanding that the MSW/MHC-M is a member of Outpatient Mental Health Services and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.

Qualifications, Required:


  • Master’s degree in Social Work and membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)


  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or a related health or Social Science field
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the community providing counselling services
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Training and experience in Cognitive Behavior Therapy
  • Training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (an asset)
  • Training and experience in EMDR (an asset)
  • Knowledge and experience in working with clients experiencing PTSD
  • Training and experience providing therapy in group format
  • Must be knowledgeable of the principles of sound therapeutic practices with victims of sexual abuse and be able to demonstrate this understanding
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle; ability to provide coverage at rural sites as required
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
