Reporting to the Manager, Allied Health, the Occupational Therapist facilitates the development and rehabilitation of patients with mental, emotional and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed Occupational Therapy to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes. Current work assignment is the Rehab Unit. May provide Occupational Therapy to patients at corporate sites either through direct patient care or telephone consultation on an occasional basis.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Excellent professional judgment, conflict resolution and interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, team members, students and community partners
  • Competence in the practice of evidence-based occupational therapy and inter-professional care, with experience in the application of practice models and outcome measures
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable, flexible, creative, self-directed professional able to work effectively and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team as well as families and community partners
  • Two years of recent related experience in a clinical setting
  • Available for a 7-day rotation and site rotation
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes

Preferred

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working on rehabilitation unit
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working with stroke patients
