Reporting to the Director of Finance and Supply Chain, the Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing financial statements. The Senior Accountant is an adaptable, proactive individual with a strong willingness to learn and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. Other key responsibilities include working with the Director of Finance and Supply Chain to meet all reporting requirements of the finance department, support informed financial decision-making of the Hospital, as well as being a team lead on departmental initiatives. Provide data analysis and ongoing support to the Director of Finance and Grey Bruce Health Services Management Team.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with related experience in hospital financial and utilization data
  • Hold a recognized professional designation (CPA)
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Institute Health Information MIS Guidelines and the Ministry of Heath OHRS guidelines
  • Possess advanced technical skills in MS Office, particularly Excel skills with the ability to create advanced logical, look up and reference formulas, tables, pivot tables, charts and graphs
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a challenging fast paced environment
  • Ability to manage workload to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to formulate, gather, analyze and present financial and statistical information from a variety of data set to reach a valid conclusion in a clear and concise report
  • Maturity, professionalism, and high level of discretion are required
  • Knowledge of procedural controls and data validation techniques required
  • Independent worker and analytical thinker with ability to conduct research, data analysis and resolve complex problems
  • Strong presence with the ability to interact with senior leadership
  • Financial modeling expertise a plus
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
