Dr. Bob Severs, Chief Anesthesiologist at Grey Bruce Health Services’ (GBHS), was recently presented with the 2016 Ontario Anesthesiologists Distinguished Service Award. This is the highest honor of recognition for Ontario’s Anesthesiologists.
“Bob is an outstanding physician, leader and colleague, and we are proud to have him as part of the GBHS team,” said Dr. Brendan Mulroy, GBHS Chief of Staff. “He has a long list of professional achievements, and has been a mentor and guide to many medical students and residents over the years. “We are delighted to see that Dr. Severs is being recognized for his many years of service. He has always been the go-to-guy in a difficult situation.”
This award is presented to Anesthesiologists based on their contributions in five key areas: Clinical Service or Excellence, Administration and Leadership, Education and Teaching, Research and Scientific Work, and Humanitarian and Altruism.
In 1980, Dr. Severs started his career as a Family and Emergency Department Physician. He returned to McMaster University to complete a Residency in Anesthesiology. In 1990, Dr. Severs returned to GBHS as an Anesthesiologist, where he has eagerly taken on a wide variety of leadership roles including: Anesthesiology Education Coordinator, Coordinator of Continuing Medical Education, Coordinator of the Intensive Care Unit, Chief of the Anesthesiology department and GBHS Chief of Staff.
Dr. Severs has played a major role in community fundraising initiatives, and was a member of the cabinet committee for The Hospital Campaign, an $11.4 million fundraising campaign for Cancer Care at GBHS.
