The Grey Bruce Health Services Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr. Paul Middlebrook as Chief of Medical Staff, and Dr. Megan Grigg as Medical Staff President (Rural).

Dr. Middlebrook will assume his new role effective January 6, 2020, taking over from Dr. Bob Severs. Dr. Middlebrook is a urologist, and has been a well-respected member of the medical staff at GBHS since 1991.  During his time with GBHS Dr. Middlebrook held the positions of Chief of Surgery and Chief of Urology, and has been a member of a number of other medical leadership committees.

Dr. Middlebrook retired from practice in general urology in December, 2017, and has continued with the GBHS surgical program as a Surgical Assistant.  Dr. Middlebrook is currently on the Board of Directors for Community Living Owen Sound and District.

Dr.  Grigg is stepping into her new role as of January 1, 2020, taking over Dr. Elaine Blau.  Dr. Grigg  has been a member of the Department of Rural Family Medicine at GBHS Wiarton Hospital since 2011 and has held the lead physician role for the South Bruce Peninsula Family Health Organization since 2013.

Dr. Grigg practiced inner city addiction and primary care medicine and has completed comprehensive rural family medicine locums in Northwestern Ontario, British Columbia, the Yukon and Northwest Territories prior to her arrival in Wiarton in 2010.  In her current practice, Dr. Grigg  cares for patients at the Family Health Team, in homes, the ER and inpatient settings, as is common for rural physicians.

The Board of Directors would like to thank Dr. Severs for so generously returning to the Chief of Medical Staff role on an interim basis for the past six months during a transition period.  Dr. Severs had retired from the Chief’s position in 2013. His common sense approach, combined with his experience in various leadership positions throughout the organization were, once again, a significant asset to the Board and the Executive team during this transition.

The Board also extends its appreciation to Dr. Blau for her role as Medical Staff President (Rural). She has offered her thoughtful, passionate voice to the needs of rural hospitals and has been a strong advocate for rural healthcare workers. Dr. Blau will continue with her practice as part of the Bruce Peninsula Family Health Team.

On behalf of the Board, we welcome Drs. Middlebrook and Grigg to their new leadership positions, and we thank Drs. Severs and Blau for their expertise and guidance to GBHS staff and patients.
