Registered Nurse - Mental Health Services Crisis Team - AMENDED

Full-Time
Owen Sound

Reporting to the Manager of the Crisis Team, the Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive mental health assessment or case coordination service to persons presenting to emergency room that are experiencing a psychosocial crisis or psychiatric emergency. This incumbent will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources, family, hospital and social systems to collaborate with team members on appropriate responses and intervention to support individuals and their families.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 2 years of experience in the last 5 years working with persons with complex mental health issues in an emergent multidisciplinary team setting
  • Current CPI Certification or willingness to take training
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, Health Care and Consent Act and Substitute Decision Makers Act, Child and Family Services ACT, DSM-V (R) is essential
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Crisis Theoretical Framework and Application including risk assessment
  • Ability to communicate positively and professionally with family members, community providers and physicians utilizing telecommunications systems and face to face skills.
  • Ability to respond and prioritize multiple departmental requests to provide quality client centered care
  • Ability to problem solve and make effective decisions in a fast paced, stressful emergent environment
  • Ability to engage patients using knowledge and skills related to motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural and brief solution focused therapies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patient and /or family to develop care planning for patients with complex treatment needs
  • Ability to provide 24/7 shift coverage
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and use of vehicle to travel
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
